`mss
PHASE ONE
ENVIRONMENTAL
ADDENDUM TO WORK PLAN
for
Vadose Zone"Site Characterization
Former Union Tanks - Cutter Lumber
3422 & 3430 & El Dorado
Stockton, California „
November 18, 1996
Project No. 102.2
INTRODUCTION
The following Section 4.0 is intended to replace the section of the same designation in the
original Work Plan dated October 8, 1996
4.0 PROPOSED INVESTIGATION
In order to help assess whether the former tanks may have impacted the water well, the
following work is being proposed by the Bank of Stockton.
1. Use hollow stem auger drilling equipment to install a total of 8 soil borings to a
depth sufficient to penetrate the capillary fringe zone (about 35 feet). The borings
will be logged and soil samples will be collected for laboratory analysis to help
define the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in the vadose zone.
The proposed locations of the borings are designed to investigate the area in the
immediate vicinity of the former gasoline UST, the domestic water well, and in the
suspected down-gradient direction of groundwater flow.
2. The domestic water well will be permanently abandoned by completely pressure
grouting it with a sand /cement slurry.
3. The information gathered from the soil borings will be used to help assesses the
necessity and extent of a possible soil excavation that may be proposed for the
r
1
