3.0 GROUNDWATER DEPTH AND GRADIENT
iThe depth to groundwater at the site has ranged from approximately 42 feet in November
of 1992 to 37 feet in July of 1993. These fluctuations are due to seasonal effects and are
common at most sites in San Joaquin County.
The groundwater gradient at the site has rotated from N 41° W in November of 1992 to N
19° E in October of 1993.
4.0 SCOPE OF WORK
On April 12, 1994, representatives of GeoAudit met with Mr. Harlin Knoll of the San
Joaquin County Public Health Services - Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) to
discuss alternatives for further site assessment to further define contamination in the vicinity
of MW-1.
It was determined that one soil boring be installed approximately five feet north of
monitoring well MW-1 (see Figure 2).The boring will be drilled to a depth of approximately
40 feet (groundwater). However, if field screening indicates that petroleum hydrocarbons
are present in soil samples, additional borings may be drilled to completely define the lateral
extent of impacted soil.
5.0 PROCEDURES
To meet the project objectives, the following procedures will be performed:
1) Prepare a site health and safety plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety and
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities-Prepared by National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
October 1985.
2) Notify the San Joaquin County Environmental Public Health Services -
Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) 48 hours prior to commencement of any
work.
3) Drill one boring approximately 5 feet north of monitoring well MW-1 using truck-
mounted, continuous-flight, 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers. The boring will be
drilled to a depth of approximately 40 feet. The boring location is depicted on Figure
2.
4) Obtain soil samples at five-foot intervals using a split-tube sampler loaded with three
Ckdq wl A.&s.mw,I..
