8 January 1993
(GeoAudit CV 45-49C5-1. 10)
CONCLUSIONS
No contamination was detected in soil samples collected from the
I two monitoring wells drilled during this phase of investigation.
There is no evidence of vadose zone contamination in the vicinity
of these borings.
' The diesel contamination originally reported in the water sample
from MW-3 appears to be erroneous and due to laboratory error,
because this contamination was refuted by the replacement sample
' (MW-3/1-22-93) . The replacement sample showed no TPH as diesel
contamination.
Both gasoline and diesel were detected in the water sample from MW-
1 in the June sampling event, but only gasoline was reported in the
November sample. Additionally, benzene and toluene were detected in
the November sampling.
lbThese results confirm that groundwater down-gradient from the
former tank cavity has been impacted by an unauthorized release of
hydrocarbons. The concentrations of gasoline, benzene, and toluene
exceed state action levels. Remediation will probably be required,
but in accordance with state guidelines, PHS/EHD will probably
require that additional monitoring wells be installed to delineate
the contaminant plume before approving a groundwater remediation
plan.
LIMITATIONS
Our professional services were performed using that degree of care
and skill ordinarily exercised by environmental consultants
' practicing in this or similar localities. The findings were mainly
based on analytical results provided by an independent laboratory.
Evaluations of the geologic conditions at the site for the purpose
of this investigation are made from a limited number of available
data points (i.e. borings) and subsurface conditions may vary away
from these data points. Although soil contamination was not
' encountered, it could be present in areas not investigated by this
assessment. Therefore, no other warranty, expressed or implied, is
made as to the professional recommendations contained in this
report.
