Interim Emergency Remedial Action/Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan Pae 7
Former Union Facility,-Cutter Lumber
Project No 102 2
May 20, 1997
' 2.2.2 Extraction Well Development and Sampling
After the well has been allowed to stabilize for at least 48 hours, it will be opened and
sampled to determine if free product is present in measurable amounts If free product is
measured, a skimmer will be installed in the well to remove free product At such time as
' free product has been adequately removed (i e , no longer measurable), the well can then
be converted to a normal groundwater monitoring well
2.2.3 Free Product Skimmer Installation
In the likely event that free product is present beneath the former underground storage
' tank location, it will then be possible to use an electrically or pneumatically actuated
skimmer inserted into the well to separate free phase gasoline from ground water and
pump it to the surface for disposal The gasoline would be pumped into a DOT approved,
' 55 gallon drum at the surface and periodically collected for recycling The well will not
be used to "pump and treat" groundwater, but merely to remove free liquid from the
groundwater surface
3.0 PROPOSED INVESTIGAITON
In order to monitor the extent of the hydrocarbon plume in the groundwater, four
' groundwater monitoring wells will be installed It is proposed that these wells be located
at positions as shown on the site map and a monitoring program begun at the site One
well will be installed south of the tank pit in the approximated direction of the assumed
' up-gradient position The remaining three are at varying distances and directions in the
assumed down-gradient direction (north/northeast)
' 3.1 Boring Installation
3.1.1 Soil Boring Installation
The well borings will be drilled using a 8 inch diameter hollow stem auger rig operated
by a C-57 licensed drilling contractor Soil cuttings will be stockpiled on the location
' pending profiling and proper disposal These borings will be logged and sampled by a
licensed California Registered Geologist Upon installation of the borings a monitoring
well will be constructed in each
' 3.1.2 Soil Sampling and Analysis
Soil samples will be collected for geological and analytical evaluation at five foot
intervals The samples will be collected using a 2 0 inch diameter (I d) California split
2937 Veneman Ave , #13240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc Phone(209)569-0293
Modesto, CA 95356 Fax (209) 569-0295
I
