F
' Report-Vapor Extraction 1 Air Sparge Remedial System Page 10
Former Bank of Stockton/Western Lift:Site
Project No, 102.3
March 25, 2005
' 6.0 SYSTEM START-UP
On January 27, 2005, the system was started and operated for approximately one and one-
half hours in the presence of Mr. Craig Mitchell of the San Joaquin County APCD and
Mr. Harlin Knoll of the San Joaquin County EHD. The two inspectors witnessed the
sytem operating and initial monitoring and sampling activities. At the time of the start-up
' test, tall four air sparge wells were on-line and the vapor extraction system was connected
to well VES-1. The following table summarizes the systems operating characteristics:
Time Suction Total VE input Exhaust
Rate Sparge Vac. PID PID
Rate Press. Reading Readin
0920 79 cfm 10.1 cfm 60" 122 ppm 0 ppm
1025 79 cfm 10.1 cfm 60". 1,450 ppm 0 ppm
' 1040 79 cfm 10.1 cfm 60" X3,000 ppm 0 ppm,
1050 79 cfm 10.1 cfm 60" 239 ppm 0 ppm.
During the time the system was operating, air samples were collected for laboratory
analysis. Input gas was collected at 0920 and 1040. A sample from the exhust stack was
collected at 1040. All three samples were collected from sample ports designed for the
purpose. A hand-operated pump was used to transfer gas air from the sample ports
' directly into 1-liter Tedlar sample bags. Upon collection each sample bag was sealed by
closing the sample valve, labled and transported to Argon Labs of Ceres, CA (DHS 9
' 2585) under chain-of-custody protocol.
The samples were tested for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH-G) using EPA method
' 5030 and for Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene (BTEX) using EPA method
8021b. The following table summarizes the laboratory analytical results:
I ' Sam le Time I Sample ID 1 TPH-G I Benzene Toluene Ethyl-Benzene r Xylene
In ut 0920 VEWI-1020 4.2 ND<0.3 ND<0.3 ND<0.3 ND<0.6
Input 1040 VEWI-1040 4.3 3.9 2.2 1.3 1.9
' Exhaust P, 1040 Exhaust 0.18 ND<0.3 0.3 0.4 0.6
Detect Limit 1 1 0.05 mg/L 1 0.3 0.3 0.3 0.6
' Based on these data, the following calculations can be made:
Time Suction TPH VE Exhaust
' Rate Conc.
