Project No. 102.3
October 30,2001
4.0 PILOT SYSTEM WELL INSTALLATION
Two new wells will be constructed through the contaminant plume to test the efficacy of
' various remedial methodologies that could be employed at this site. The following
section describes the installation of one vapor extraction well and one sparge well.
' Existing groundwater monitoring wells will be used as a part of the pilot test. It is
anticipated that the wells will be installed approximately I week before the
commencement of the air sparge and vapor extraction pilot test. See the attached site
' map for well locations.
4.1 Soil Boring Installation
A total of two soil borings will be installed in the area of the release. These will be
drilled with 10 or 15-inch o.d. hollow stemmed auger tools operated by a C-57 licensed
' drilling contractor. During drilling, the boring will be logged and sampled by a
professional geologist supervised by a registered geologist. The approximate
characteristics of the borings will be as follows:
Well Boring Diameter Boring Depth
1 Vapor Extraction Well 15 inch 40 feet
' 1 Air Sparge Well 10 inch 50 feet
' 4.2 Pilot Remedial Well Construction
The following section describes the construction of each remedial well. Locking water
tight well caps will be installed on top of each well as well as traffic rated well boxes.
4.2.1 Vapor Extraction Well Construction
This well, designated VEW-1, will be located near the center of the point of release.
