' Work Plan-Pilot Testing Page 13
Cutter Lumber Site
' • Project No. L02.3
October 30,2001
' Three successive temperature pH and conductivity readings within 10%of each other will
be used as the criteria to suggest that representative formation water is entering the well.
' Groundwater parameters will be continuously monitored using a YSI flow cell attached
directly to the discharge on the pump. Dissolved oxygen content and Oxidation-
Reduction potential will also be continuously monitored. During the course of the pilot
test, additional water sample will be periodically collected for measurement of dissolved
oxygen content.
' All water removed from each monitoring well and not used as a sample, will be placed in
a 55 gallon DOT (Department of Transportation 17-H) approved container that is
' properly labeled and temporally stored on-site awaiting proper disposal.
6.3 Air Sample Collection
' Air samples will be collected at various times during the pilot test. Samples will be
collected in a Tedlar bag attached to Tygon tubing, which is in turn attached to a
' sampling port on the VES system. The bag is then placed into a hermetically sealed box
and air is evacuated from the box using a hand pump. As air is evacuated from the box,
the Tedlar bag fills and an air sample is collected. An OVM reading is made from the air
' contained in the bag, the Tygon tube discarded, and the bag placed in a cool environment
for immediate transport to the analytical laboratory. A chain of custody document, listing
all samples collected and their intended analyses will accompany the samples from field
' to the laboratory, thereby providing a means to track their movement and insure their
integrity.
6.4 Soil Sample Analysis
' Soil samples will be shipped to a state certified analytical laboratory for analysis. Note
that not all soil samples collected are likely to be submitted for laboratory analysis. Field
observations, as recorded in the boring logs, and the purpose of the investigation will
' suggest which samples are appropriate for analysis. Selected soil samples from each
boring will be submitted for analysis as follows:
' • Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPH-Gasoline) by EPA method 801.5m,
• Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Total Xylenes (BTEX) by abbreviated EPA
8020, and
i n limits for those compounds The detect are as follows:o
2937 Veneman Ave.,#B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
