i
Currently there is a large excavation pit in the parking lot near the
northwest corner of the property(Figure 1-2). Soil has been mounded
around the pit and a temporary fence has been placed on top of the
mounded soil. The excavated soil has been segregated into stockpiles
of clean soil and contaminated soil.
» Ground surface elevation at the site is approximately 15 feet above
mean sea level (MSL). Information supplied by the City of Stockton
Public Works Division reported the elevation of the first unconfined
groundwater in the Spring of 1990 at 20 feet below MSL. Thus, the
static groundwater level may be between 35 and 40 feet below the
ground surface.
Surface water in the area is limited to French Camp Slough which
runs northeast approximately 1500 feet from the site. French Camp
W. Siough is a tributary of the San Joaquin River which flows northward
approximately 3 miles to the west of the site.
The existing floor of the excavation is at a depth approximately 15 feet
below grade. The native soil at this depth is clay. A sandy material
-, was encountered between 20' to 25' below grade. The sandy material
is present on all sides of the excavation to a depth of 32 to 35 feet.
Some additional clay was found at a 35' depth. The extent of this clay
. is unknown.
; r
r
Groundwater elevations for the site area were compiled from March
1590 measurements of San Joaquin County Flood Control and Water
Conservation District (SJCFCWCD), and California Department of -
Water Resources (DWR) monitoring wells. There is one production
well located on the site approximately 500 feet south of the excavation.
The.well previously provided the mill with water for sanitary use and
for the fire sprinkier system. The well is not currently in use. There
are no other known walls within 500 feet of the investigation site.
7. - 4esvitsof]Previous Invesfigations __ -- - --- -.
ry Soil samples have been submitted for laboratory analysis on three
occasions during the past ten months.
