(legal counsel for Manna Pro Corporation) regarding the subject work plan, dated July 22, 1992 Based
on these concerns, we wish to clarify our proposed scope of work and/or make the following changes
i
1 Clarification oft the Use of Composite Samples
You requested clarification on the sampling regime proposed by Groundwater Technology on behalf of
Manna Pro Corporation The sampling regime proposed as a means of characterizing the stockpiled sod
is to collect a discrete sample from the stockpiled sod for each 40 cubic yards Four discrete samples
from contiguous 40 cubic yard volumes of sod will be composited by the laboratory for analyses The
destination of each 160 cubic yard volume of sod represented by the composite sample (i e , whether
that soil is segregated for on-site treatment or returned to the tank excavation) will be based upon
whether or not the composite sample meets the target criteria proposed in the work plan, as ammended
by this addendum
2 Field Observations with Regardto "Hot Spots"
You requested that SJCPHS have the ability to require testing of discrete samples before they are
composited if it appears, based on field observations, that they may exceed the target criteria
Accordingly, if during the course of sampling, either visual inspection or field screening measures (i e ,
photoionization detector headspace analyses) reveal concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons that
may exceed target criteria in a discrete sample, that sample, at SJCPHS's request, will be separately
analyzed if the sample meets target criteria, the 40 cubic yards of sod represented by it may be placed
in the excavation or otherwise handled in accordance with paragraph 4 below If the sample does not
meet the target criteria, the soil represented by it will be segregated for further treatment in accordance
with the work plan
Offices throughout the US Canada and Overseas
