SECTION 1 <br /> INTR OD UC TION <br /> This document presents the results of a soil and groundwater <br /> investigation completed at the Manna Pro Feed Mill facility located at <br />' 4004 El Dorado Street, Stockton, San Joaquin County, California The <br /> location of this facility is shown on Figure 1-1 The facility consists of <br /> a feed mill and warehouse that is presently idle A Phase II site <br /> audit of the facility was conducted by WHF Environmental <br />' Consultants in February 1990 During the audit, five underground <br /> fuel tanks were identified in the northwest corner of the property <br />' The fuel tanks were removed by SEMCO (subcontracted to WHF) in <br /> June 1990 Diesel and gasoline contamination was found in the <br /> underlying soils after the tanks were removed Contamination was <br /> t also found underneath the fuel pumps, to the southeast of the tanks <br /> A re-excavation workplan was prepared by WHF in July 1990 and <br /> approved by San Joaquin County Approximately 2,500 cubic yards of <br /> soil were then excavated by SEMCO from the area and stockpiled on- <br /> site An addendum to the re-excavation workplan calling for <br /> removal of 5,000 cubic yards of soil was filed with San Joaquin County <br />' on September 12, 1990 and was approved by the County It is <br /> unknown if the 5,000 cubic yards refers to additional or total yardage <br />' Currently, a large excavation pit exists in the parking lot near the <br /> northwest corner of the property (Figure 1-2) Soil has been mounded <br /> around the pit, and a temporary chain link fence has been placed on <br />' top of the mounded soil The excavated soil has been segregated into <br /> stockpiles of clean and contaminated soil (Figure 1-3) <br />' Before proceeding with further excavation, O'Melveny & Myers <br /> (council for Manna Pro, Inc ) contracted with ERM-West, Inc to <br /> review the status of the work performed to date and provide <br /> recommendations for further activities at the site The initial <br />' assessment work by ERM-West completed in October 1990 consisted of <br /> trenching and sampling within the existing excavation ERM-West <br /> recommended that an investigation be performed to determine the <br />' extent of soil contamination prior to proceeding further with <br /> excavation of contanunated soil Accordingly, additional excavation <br /> of the site was done October 11, 1990, under the auspices of the <br /> appro�ed September 12 workplan addendum <br />' 1-1 <br />
