V WHF to Berry Seed and Feed on February 10, 1990 A copy of the report is contained as Appendix A to this report ' In July 1990, the five underground storage tanks were removed by SEMCO of Modesto, California, under contract to WHF Ten soil samples were collected during the removal of the underground fuel ' tanks, one at each end of the five tank excavations These samples were analyzed for TPH as gasoline and diesel, as well as BTEX A concentration of 900 mg/kg of diesel was detected in the sample ' collected near the south end of the 10,000-gallon diesel tank referenced as tank #2 in Table 1-1 A concentration of 3,000 mg/kg of diesel was detected near the south end of the 10,000-gallon diesel tank referenced as tank #3 in Table 1-1 Gasoline and diesel were detected in the soil samples collected near the north and south ends of the 5,000-gallon diesel tank referenced as tank # 4 in Table 1-1 Gasoline and diesel were also detected in the soil sample collected near the ' west end of the 5,000-gallon diesel tank referenced as tank #5 in Table 1-1 The tank removal procedures and analytical results are presented in the report entitled "Re-excavation Work Plan", which was prepared by WHF and submitted on July 24, 1990 A copy of the workplan as included in Appendix B to this report Re-excavabon W r I W'HF During July 1990, in response to the detection of petroleum hydrocarbons during the removal of the underground storage tanks, WHF proposed to excavate soil in this area to a depth of 20 feet It was ' anticipated that approximately 2,100 cubic yards of soil would be excavated This proposal, the "Re-excavation Workplan," was submitted by WHF to San Joaquin County during July 1990 and �as subsequently approved This workplan is contained in Appendix B to this report Approximately 2,500 cubic yards of soil were excavated from the area and stockpiled on-site An Addendum to the "Re- excavation Workplan" was submitted by WHF to San Joaquin County on September 12, 1990 and was also subsequently approved . -Y, st During October 1990, ERM-West recommended that an investigation ' be done to determine the extent of soil contamination prior to proceeding further with excavation of contaminated soil On October 11, 1990, ERM-West performed soil sampling around the excavation ' This sampling was performed by excavating slots into the walls of the existing excavation using a backhoe This methodology was used following an excavation workplan prepared by WHF that had already 1-3 1
