1
Work Plan Page 18
Former Manna Pro Site
' Project No 207 3
August 16, 1999
' Groundwater parameters will be continuously monitored using a YSI flow cell attached
directly to the discharge on the pump Dissolved oxygen content and Oxidation-
Reduction potential will also be continuously monitored
Before a sample is collected, the well's water level is allowed to recharge to at least 80%
' of its initial level A bailer is then used to collect each sample Bailer cleanliness is
assured by collecting a bailer blank (pouring distilled water through the bailer and
collecting it in a VOA vial) prior to collecting the analytical sample Before and in
' between uses, all sampling equipment will be washed using a portable steam cleaner
Disposable gloves will be worn by the sampling technician while collecting all samples
and changed between the collection of each sample to reduce the potential for cross-
contamination
Extreme care will be exercised while collecting samples to prevent agitation of the water
' contained in the bailer Water samples will be carefully transferred from the bailer into
40 ml VOA vials preserved with hydrochloric acid and I liter capacity amber glass bottles
' (provided by the analytical laboratory) All samples will be tapped to check for head
space bubbles, labeled, inserted into foam holders and placed in an ice chest cooled to
4°C for transport to the laboratory A chain of custody document, listing all samples
collected and their intended analyses will accompany the samples from field to the
laboratory, thereby providing a means to track their movement and insure their integrity
All water removed from each monitoring well and not used as a sample, will be placed in
a 55 gallon DOT (Department of Transportation 17-H) approved container that is
properly labeled and temporally stored on-site awaiting proper disposal
6.3 Air Sample Collection
Air samples will be collected at various times during the pilot test Samples will be
collected in a Tedlar bag attached to Tygon tubing which is in turn attached to a sampling
port on the VES system The bag is then placed into a hermetically scaled box and air is
evacuated from the box using a hand pump As air is evacuated from the box, the Tedlar
bag fills and an air sample is collected An OVM reading is made from the air contained
in the bag, the Tygon tube discarded, and the bag placed in a cool environment for
immediate transport to the analytical laboratory A chain of custody document, listing all
samples collected and their intended analyses will accompany the samples from field to
the laboratory, thereby providing a means to track their movement and insure their
integrity
2937 Veneman Ave,#13240 Geo-Please Environmental Inc Phone(209) 569-0293
Modesto, CA 95356 Fax(209)569-0295
