' Addendum to Corrective Action Pian Page 7
Former Manna Pro Site
' Project No 207 3
• August 12,2002
' 4.0 SURFACE SYSTEM INSTALLATION & OPERATION
4,1 Equipment Installation
' Both the sparge um s, and vapor extraction blowers will be maintained in an enclosure
' adjacent to a nearby shed The carbon units will be nearby, but outside the enclosure
Power will be supplied from a previously constructed electrical service that should be
adequate to operate the entire system The surface equipment for the remedial system
' will be installed once the requisite wells have been constructed The existing equipment
area located near an existing storage shed will be expanded for this purpose as required
The pipe runs connecting the sparge and vapor extraction wells to the respective
' manifolds will, for the most part, be laid in shallow trenches and buried in order that the
operation of the remedial system will not unduly interfere with the ongoing operations of
Cutter Lumber, the owner of the site The existing pavement will be saw cut and trenches
' about 12 to 16 inches deep will be dug The pipe runs will consist of 2-inch and 3-inch
diameter Schedule 40 PVC pipe After the piping has been laid and connected to the
various wells, the trenches will be back-filled with road mix, and a paving contractor will
' patch the pavement
. 4.1.1 Vapor Extraction Blower Installation
The process air will be extracted from the ground using a bank of at least two
regenerative type blowers capable of producing 150 SCFM and 6 to 8 inches of Mercury
vacuum It is expected that at any given time three to four vapor extraction wells will be
operated This will allow the wells to be "cycled" to maximize the overall efficiency of
the vapor extraction In essence, as a given well's gasoline production declines to a low
level, it will be taken off-line and replaced with another well As the first extractor is
allowed to be idle, the gasoline-impacted soil that it serves will be partially recharged,
and eventually the well will be returned to production Using this system, each well will
be in a recharging state for about 2/3rds of the time and will be in active production for
1/3 of the time This method should allow the maximum feasible recovery of gasoline
' hydrocarbons
4.1.2 Sparge Compressor Installation
A 5 horsepower sparge compressor is already present at the remedial equipment site, but
additional compression capacity will be needed Ideally, all sparge wells would be in
I operation at all times This would require compression capacity able to deliver at least 40
scfm of airflow at the face of the screened interval at the bottom of the wells Thus, the
pressure applied at the wellhead should be between 8 and 11 pounds per square inch to
' 2937 Veneman Ave ,#13240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc Phone(209)569-0293
Modesto, CA 95356 Fax(209)569-0295
