' Report—Fist Phase Remedial System Page 18 Former Manna Pro Site ' Project No 2111 June 1$, 2002 ' During the course of the vapor extraction cycle, one 1,000-pound carbon canister was re- charged and no hydrocarbons were detected in air samples collected for laboratory ' analysts from the exhaust stream The carbon filter provider (US Filter / Westates) reports that the maximum saturation of the carbon is about 25 weight percent This implies that only about 750 pounds of gasoline could have been extracted without a ' break-through to the atmosphere Clearly there is a discrepancy between the calculated mass of extracted gasoline, and the apparent capabilities of the carbon system After a review of all pertinent factors, we suspect the discrepancy is the result of an instrument inaccuracy on the part of the digital manometer as described above We believe that total vapor extracted may be over-stated and the system was actually delivering 15 to 30 percent less than indicated If this is correct, and assuming the over-measurement is 30 percent, the actual total gasoline extracted would be about 600 pounds Cross-Plot 3 Vapor Extraction Perfomnance y 10000 i- ---- -- -- -a 1000 - X 000 -x 100 - -- - - - - — I LU ai 10 - ---- - ° - ---- H ' • 0 - ----- - • -- 1 - 0 500 1000 1500 2000 2500 Hours 6.2 Air Sparge Field Results The air injection rate ranged between 2 scfm and about 7 scfm During the first few weeks of operation, the rate was maintained near the low end of the range Later the rate ' was increased somewhat, but the compressor presented some problems associated with the higher rates Although the compressor was a new Ingersoll-Rand unit, it tended to have some degree of oil blow-by around the piston rings This allowed a small amount of lubricating oil into the discharged air stream The oil was trapped in the pressure ' 2937 Veneman Ave ,#13240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc Phone(209) 569-0293 Modesto,CA 95356 Fax(209)569-0295
