Report—Vapor Extraction/Air Sparge Remedial System Page S
Former Manna Pro Site
Project No 207 3
• September 26,2003
4.0 PILOT TESTING SYSTEM INSTALLATION & OPERATION
Thesurface equipment for the system was newly installed or modified from previously
' existing equipment The surface Equipment was connected to service well bath buried
pipe runs This work occurred from May to early September 2003
The surface equipment is electrically actuated and the previously installed 240-volt, 3-
phase, 70 amp electric service provides the power
4.1 Trenching and Piping
Haley Construction of Stockton, CA was contracted to install conveyance piping in
' trenches to protect it from continual truck traffic associated with ongoing business
operations of Cutter Lumber Products Upon completion of trenching, the vapor
extraction wells were connected to the central equipment area with 3 inch diameter
' schedule 40 PVC piping, and the sparge wells were constructed with 2 inch schedule 40
PVC piping Each wellhead was equipped with a "T" fitting to allow direct access to the
wells and a traffic-rated well box This fittings allows for entry of each well for
' sounding, development, pressure testing, or other operations that may be needed during
the life of the project The trenches were back filled with cement slurry to prevent the
possibility of settling and to protect the PVC pipe runs from heavy truck traffic
4.2 Manifolds
The vapor extraction wells and the sparge wells were equipped with separate manifold
systems to allow simultaneous operation of up to 4 sparge wells and 4 vapor extractor
wells
' The vapor extraction manifold consists of a PVC plenum with 3-inch diameter inlet ports
and each of the ports is equipped with a Cam-lock fitting Three-inch flexible hoses, also
' equipped with Cam-lock fittings then connect the four plenum inlets to any four of the
vapor extraction wells A 3-inch riser to the manifold area represents each of the vapor
extraction wells, and each riser is equipped with a brass gate valve to control air flow
' Upstream of the gate valves, each riser is also equipped with a sample port where samples
of the gasoline-laden vapor from each well may be collected, and the velocity of air in
each well may be measured with a digital manometer
1 The sparge manifold consists of a 1/4 inch i d plenum with four exhaust outlets and each
outlet is connected to a sparge well with high-pressure flexible hose Each of the four air
' outlets is also equipped with an inline, limiting orifice Rotameter flow gauge capable of
monitoring up to 10 scfm of air into each of up to four sparge wells The Rotameters are
also equipped with adjustable air valves that allow the infection rate in each well to be
precisely adjusted and balanced
' 2937 Veneman Ave , #B240 Geo-Phase Environmental tnc Phone(209)569-0293
Modesto, CA 95356 Fax(209) 569-0295
