' Report—Vapor Extraction/Air Sparge Remedial System Page 6 <br /> Fortner Manna Pro Site <br /> Project No 207 3 <br /> • September 26,2003 <br /> 3.0 SOIL SAMPLING & ANALYSIS <br /> 3.1 Soil Sample Collection <br /> tWhile drilling, soil samples were collected for geologic and possible analytical evaluation <br /> on five-foot intervals in each boring unless otherwise noted The following is a <br />' description of the methods used in collecting soil samples <br /> Soil samples were collected for geological and analytical evaluation using a 2 0-inch <br /> diameter by 1 5-foot long (i d ) hammer driven California Split Spoon sampling device <br /> fitted with three 2 by 6 inch stainless steel liners The soil sample collection procedure <br /> was as follows The end of each sample tube removed from the split spoon was sealed <br />' with aluminum foil, capped with plastic end caps, secured with tape, labeled and placed <br /> in a cooler at 4° Celsius for transport to the laboratory using Chain of Custody protocol <br /> Chain of Custody (CofQ forms are documents used to track the handling of samples All <br />' dates, times, persons and companies handling the samples were listed from the time the <br /> sample was collected to its ultimate disposal All soil sampling equipment was <br /> decontaminated by washing and double rinsing between uses <br />' A detailed log was made of each boring and the logs are attached to this report as <br /> Appendix B The information noted included such data as sample depths, blow counts <br />' from hammer driven sampling devices, horizons of detectable contamination (detected by <br /> field methods), soil classification utilizing the Unified Soil Classification System and <br /> sediment description (color, texture, composition, hardness, moisture content, and post- <br /> depositional changes that have occurred in the sediments) <br />' In general, the geologic character of the soil observed during drilling may be summarized <br /> as follows <br />' 0 to 15+ feet <br /> Clay and Silt, reddish brown or olive, semi-plastic to friable <br />' 15+ feet to 30+.feet <br /> Sand and silty sand, very-fine to course grained Generally fair sorting Greenish gray to <br /> greenish brown Porous and permeable Generally contains few fines, but silty in some <br />' intervals <br /> 30+.feet to 40+ feet <br /> Silty clay, greenish gray to dark gray, plastic to semi-plastic deformation <br /> i <br />' 2937 Veneman Ave,#B240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc Phone(209)569-0293 <br /> Modesto, CA 95356 Fax(209)569-0295 <br />
