SEW
i
May 17, 1991
AGS 30003-1
Mr. Chuck Carmel
ARCO Products Company
P.O. Box 5811
San Mateo, California 94402
Subject: Executive Summary of Work Plan for a Soil Investigation and Vapor-
Extraction Test at ARCO Service Station No.2130, 7609 North EI Dorado
Street, Stockton, California.
Mr. Carmel:
At the request of ARCO Products Company (ARCO), Applied GeoSystems, Inc. is
submitting this work plan to conduct a soil investigation and a vapor-extraction test'
(VET) at the subject site. The purpose of this investigation is to assess soil for possible
gasoline hydrocarbons before.the removal of underground gasoline-storage„anks and
install three vapor•extraction wells. This investigation is not in response to a known or
suspected release of gasoline product.
During this investigation, a maximum of four soil borings will be drilled around the tank
cavity. In addition three soil.borings will be drilled north of the station bu'iiding, vapor-
extraction wells will be installed in the borings .—+ a vapor-extraction test (VET) •/ill be
conducted. The VET will be used to evaluote.+.,e fv9sibility of vapor recovery beneath
he sit
asoe before the tanks are removed. We ucdersL.ind from ARCO perscnnel that if
gline hydrocarbons are detected in the soil during the upcoming tank removal, that
another cavi would be excavated and the h drocarboneous soil would be laced in-that
cavity._ We also understand the new tanks will be installed in 1 xistin tank cavity.
MY rocarbons would then be removed by vapor extraction if the results from the
proposed VET indicate this method of remediation is feasible.
During the drilling of the soil borings,we will collect soil samples to evaluate the soil for-
:.gasoline hydrocarbons according to ARCO's Preliminary Tank Replacement Assessment
guideiines. The enclosed work plan describes our procedures and methods associated
;. with drilling soil borings and conducting a VET.
