r ( a
Mr. Bank Sheetz
June 24, 1987
Page 2
Benzene a.-:_ toluene levels exceeded DHS designated action levels in
both samples.,, and xylerie exceeded its action level in sample P-N0.
On March 26, 1987, BC and American Environmental ManageiL:ent
Corporation (AEMC) personnel pumped approximately 380 gallons of
ater containing di;solveO hydrocarbons from the two shallow
excavatio., pits while Becker personnel conducted a test of the vent
` line. On April 6, 1987, BC and AEMC personnel pumped an additional
approximately 220 gallons to give Becker personnel access to the"
vapor lines. All water was containerized in drums and transported
by AEMC to H and H Ship Service ,.in Sari Francisco.
Becker personnel discovered a leak in the manifold in the vapor line
connecting the two regular leaded tanks. Becker replaced the vapor
line piping on April 11, 1.987, and the regular leaded tank system
passed a pressure test on April 13, 1987.
In addition to replacing the regular leaded tank vapor line piping,
Becker replaced all valves in the piping of the regular leaded,
regular unleaded, and super unleaded tank systems. To provide
access to the piping, Becker, in late' Acri excavated around these
tank systems to approximately 3 feet. The excavated material was
stockpiled on asphalt along the east side of the station, On
April 28, . 1987, BC personnel collected five soil samples by hand
angering approximately 1 foot into the spoil pile of excavated
material. Soil samples were coll*cted at the locations shown on
Figure 1. Three soil samples ware selected and sent to the SC
Emeryville laboratory foz analysis for BTX, total fuel hydrocarbons,
and total lead. The results of these analy are summarized
Table 2. Complete results are enclosed. 7,AU
Table 2. Analytical Results.
