WMuAM
MA_____ nA
Working to Restore Nature
4.l Removal of UndeMmund Storage Tanks and Product Lines
During August 1993, ROUX Associates, Inc (ROUX) observed removal of four
Underground gasoline-storage tanks (ROUX,January 24, 1994) The approximate locations
of the former tanks and information regarding the capacity and former contents of the tanks
are shown on Plate 2 Roux collected soil samples from beneath the former tanks at the
locations shown on Plate 3 Four new 10,000-gallon USTs were installed in the former tank
cavity In addition, conductor casings were set between the new tanks to enable access for
future assessment of soil The approximate locations of the new tanks are shown on Plate
4
In September 1993, ROUX observed removal of the product-delivery lines and dispenser
islands (ROUX, January 24, 1994) Roux collected soil samples at the base of the product-
delivery lines and di.spenser islands for laboratory analysis at the locations shown on Plate
• 3
Approximately 920 cubic yards of soil were excavated and stockpiled onsite during the
removal and replacement of the USTs and the product-delivery lines The soil was aerated
onsite and then hauled to BFI Class III Landfill in Livermore, California (ROUX, January
24, 1994)
4.2 Assessment of Soil
To evaluate and delineate residual hydrocarbons in soil, RESNA observed drilling of 20 soil
borings onsite (borings B-1 through B-20) and five soil borings offsite (B-21 through B-25)
between June 1991 (RESNA, February 14, 1992) and November 1993 (RESNA, February
16, 1994 ) The locations of the bonngs are shown on Plate 2 Details of the borings, such
as boring depth, boring diameter, and drilling method are summarized in Table 2
30003-7 4
