Mr Michael Infurna Project 0805-114 02
January 29, 1996
Page 5
Laboratory Methods and Results
Borings B-28 and B-29 are located adjacent to existing borings from which soli samples
were collected for laboratory analysis, therefore, soil samples from these two borings were
not submitted for laboratory analysis Selected soil samples from borings B-26 and B-27
and the composite sample from the stockpile were analyzed for total purgeable petroleum
hydrocarbons (equivalent to total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline [TPHG]) with
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylene isomers distinction using Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) Methods 5030/8015 and 5030/8020, respectively In addition,
the composite soil sample collected from the stockpiled soil was analyzed for total lead
using EPA Method/7421, and for reactivity, corrosivity and igmtability The soil samples
were analyzed at Sequoia Analytical in Sacramento, California (California Department of
Health Services Hazardous Waste Testing Laboratory Certification 1624) Copies of the
chain-of-custody records and Iaboratory analysis reports are presented in Appendix C
Results of laboratory analyses of soil samples collected from the wells indicated that
TPHG concentrations ranged from below Iaboratory detection hnuts to 7,700 parts per
million (ppm), and benzene concentrations ranged from below laboratory detection hrrlits
to 8 4 ppm Results of analyses are shown on Table 1.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on pilot tests, SVE and air sparging are two remedial alternatives that are both
efficient and cost-effective to remediate the site The SVE system is currently extracting
and treating hydrocarbon-laden vapors as designed The air sparge wells were connected
to the air sparge system during the third quarter 1995 Based on quarterly data from
groundwater and the remediation system, hydrocarbon concentrations are decreasing
SACNN\PJM805V08051140 2ES-95Npas 1
