Mr Kyle Christie Project 0805-114 03
April 4, 1995
Page 3
SITE REMEDIATION
After obtaining an Authority To Construct Pernut (Permit No N-3218-1-0) from the San Joaquin
Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District, the final installation of the remediation system was
completed in September 1994, as depicted on Figure 2 The system consists of an air spargmg-
enhanced vapor extraction system with catalytic oxidation treatment (Le Aff EX KATOX 100) As of
the end of this quarter, the system utilized 1 air spargnng well (AS-1) and 12 vapor extraction wells
(VW-I through VW-12) Once access is obtained from the property owner and following approval of
a workplan from San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS), two additional air sparge
wells, one additional air sparge monitoring well and two additional vapor extraction wells will be
installed at the site and will be incorporated to the system.
Initial start-up of the system was conducted on November 8, 1994 Through the end of the quarter, the
system up-tune has been approximately 80 percent The 20 percent downtime was due to start-up
adjustments and repair of a faulty dilution air valve
/Muent and effluent air samples were collected on November 9 and December 22, 1994 (see Table 3)
Laboratory results indicate TPHG removal rates of 95 percent and 91 percent, respectively (see
Table 4) Based on the concentrations detected and an average flowrate of 70 cubic feet per minute,
the amount of gasoline removed through the end of the year is estimated to be approximately 3956
pounds or 638 gallons
ACTIVITIES PERFORMED DURING THE FOURTH QUARTER
I
i
• A second access agreement was mailed to Mr and Mrs Cheam(property owner north of the site)
in November 1994
ANTICIPATED WORK
• Once ARCO has received authorization to drill on the adjacent property north of the site, a
workplan outlining additional assessment activities and will be submitted to the SJCPHS as well as
necessary permit application
• ARCO will continue to perform quarterly groundwater monitoring The next sampling event is
scheduled for the month of March 1995
CONCLUSIONS
Hydros arbon Loncentrations c,ontnnue to fluctuate In groundwater underlying the site The highest
concentrations were detected in well.s MW-4 and MW-5 The groundwater flow direction was flowing
towards the southeast which is generally consistent with past data
SAC/NNPJ0MOM80511403AM.95MAM i
