I
Working to Restore Nature
I
4L3 Groundwater Gradient
During drilling, groundwater was encountered at approximately 61 to 68 5 feet bsg From
f
October 1991 to November 1993, static water levels have fluctuated from approximately 60 5
to 66 feet bsg The variations in depth to water in the wells are due to seasonal
fluctuations Because groundwater has been measured as high as 605 feet bsg in the
i monitoring wells (well MW-1, March 31, 1992), the top of the capillary fringe may have
been less than 60 feet bsg during 1992 Depth to water measurements are shown on Table
1
Using the groundwater elevations from January 11, 1992 and November 29, 1993, we
evaluated the groundwater gradient and direction of groundwater flow The direction of
groundwater flow varied from the northeast to southeast with a gradient of 0 001 to 0 002,
respectively The groundwater flow direction has fluctuated from northeast to southeast to
east since January 1992
5.0 PROPOSED SOIL AND GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION SYSTEMS
The proposed soil and groundwater remediation systems will consist of combined vapor
extraction and air sparging systems which will be used to remediate soil and groundwater
beneath the site Upon installation and operation of the systems, we will assess the
adequacy of the systems to remediate soil and groundwater to acceptable regulatory levels
for closure The installation of additional vapor extraction wells or air sparging wells may
be necessary in the future, depending on site-specific conditions
30003-13 8
