.5 .c
ATC SITE SAFETY PLAN
FACILITY BACKGROUND
In December 1996, two 10,000-gallon diesel gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs),
one 12,000-gallon diesel UST, and all associated piping and dispensing equipment were
removed and disposed of. Laboratory analysis of a soil samples collected from beneath the
former USTs and pipeline indicated the presence of detectable concentrations total
petroleum hydrocarbons. After the tanks were removed, the area of the former USTs was
backfilled.
In January 1997, one 8,000-gallon leaded gasoline UST and one 12,000-gallon unleaded
gasoline UST, and all associated piping and dispensing equipment were removed and
disposed of. Laboratory analysis of a soil samples collected from beneath the former USTs
indicated the presence of detectable concentrations total petroleum hydrocarbons. After
the tanks were removed, the area of the former USTs was backfilled.
WORK PLAN
Task One:
Three soil borings will be advanced at the location of the former diesel USTs, two
soil borings will be advanced in the location of the former diesel UST pipeline, and
four soil borings will be advanced at the location of the former gasoline USTs. The
soil borings will be advanced employing hollow stem auger and direct push
technology to depths ranging from 15 to 35 feet bgs. A field geologist will be present
to log all soil samples. Each soil sample will be field screened with a Photoionization
Detection (PID) meter or similar instrument and at least three samples from the
boring, based on field observations (i.e. odor, discoloration, PID readings), will be
placed in a cooler with ice and submitted for laboratory analysis.
Samples from the former diesel UST and diesel UST pipeline locations will be
analyzed for BTEX (EPA Method 8020), and TPHd (EPA Method 8015 Modified).
Samples from the former gasoline UST location will be analyzed for BTEX, TPHd,
and oxygenate fuel additives (EPA Method 8260).
PAGE
