11 August 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0118
increments will be recorded on the boring log.
7. Preserve soil in the lead sleeve by covering both ends with Teflon sheets, capping, and
sealing with tape.
8. Label and log samples on.a chain-of-custody form.
9. Store samples in a chilled container and transport to a State-certified laboratory for analysis.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as
gasoline (TPH-g), methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and volatile aromatics (benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes; BTE&X) in accordance with the EPA methods 8015m
and 8020 and 8260. Additional samples will be analyzed for.physical/geotechnical
characteristics (porosity, permeability and density).
10. Monitor auger returns and soil sample duplicates for the presence of organic vapors using
a photo-ionization detector (PID)pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
11. Log auger returns and soil sample duplicates in accordance with the Unified Soil
Classification System.
12. Complete one soil boring as a soil vapor extraction well. The boring will be completed using
2-inch diameter slotted PVC screen from an approximate depth of 15 to 35 feet bsg. Blank
PVC casing will be used from 15 feet bsg to near surface grade. A filter pack will be installed
utilizing # 3 sand from depths of 35 to 13 feet bsg, and a bentonite plug placed from-13 to
11 feet bsg. Each well will then be backfilled to the surface with Portland cement. The
proposed SVE well construction diagram is depicted in Figure 4.
13. Complete. four borings as air-sparging wells. One soil boring will be advanced under the
maintenance building on the site. Each boring will be completed using 2-inch diameter
slotted PVC screen from an approximate depth of 45 to 43,feet bsg.Blank PVC casing will
be used from 43 feet bsg to near surface grade. A filter pack will be installed utilizing 4 3
sand from depths of 45 to 42 feet bsg, and a bentonite plug placed from 42 to 38 feet bsg.
Each well will then be backfilled to the surface with Portland cement. The.proposed air
sparge well construction is depicted in Figure 5,
14. Stockpile cuttings from drilling activities on plastic sheeting on-site for aeration.
.4.2. CONFIRMATION SOIL SAMPLING
Soil samples will be collected to monitor remediation progress and deterinine method effectiveness.
The following procedures will be performed for the advancement of confirmation soil borings:
Advanced GcoEnvfronmental,Inc.
