11 August 1997
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0118
Soil borings will be completed as 2-inch diameter IAS wells using 2 feet of 0.020-inch screened
PVC casing from 43 to 45 feet bsg. Lonestar#3 sand will be utilized as a filter pack in and slightly
above the screened interval. A four foot interval of bentonite will be placed above the filter pack and
will serve as an annular seal. Portland cement will be utilized to grout from the annular seal to
surface grade. The proposed IAS injection well construction diagram is included as Figures 5 -
Proposed Air Sparging Well Design.
3.2.2. PROPOSED IN-SITUAIR SPARGING SYSTEM LOCATION AND DESIGN
The IAS compressor will operate independently from the SVE unit. This will allow for control of
the air flow to the sparge wells and``surging"of the IAS system, if necessary,to prevent mounding .
and/or migration of the dissolved hydrocarbons. A separate electrical source will be necessary for
the IAS,system.
A one-inch diameter PVC piping network will carry air from the compressor to the sparging wells.
The FVC piping will be installed beneath the ground surface. A PVC flow control valve will be
:..} installed at each Sparging well to direct air flow.
3.2.3. PROPOSED MONITORING ACTIVITIES
Quarterly ground water monitoring and sampling is proposed throughout the remediation period.
However,we recommend measurements of ground water depth and dissolved oxygen on a monthly
basis to determine if ground water mounding is occurring as a result of the operation of the IAS
system and to monitor efficiency of the sparge-points.
3.3. PERMITTING
An application for a site specific permit will be submitted to the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution
Control District (SJVAPCD) prior to initiation of the remediation project. In addition, proper
building permits will be obtained from the City of Stockton Building Department for necessary
construction work, including natural gas and electrical source installations.
3.4. SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
The SVEIIAS system will be maintained on a weekly basis, according to manufacturers
recommendations. After stabilization, routine maintenance would represent the only periods of
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Tnc.
