SUND4ARY AND COACUENTS
:a On March 18, 1996, the average depth to the water table underlying the project area was 13.18
i feet; the piezometric surface has risen 0.88-foot since January 16, 1996. Using the three-point
method, the calculated local direction of ground-water flow on March 18 was approximately
S88°E, a shift of 15° to the east (arid slightly south) since January 16 when the calculated flow
direction was N77°E. Overall, the flow direction has remained easterly. The gradient has
flattened slightly between January 16 and March 18, 1996.
i
Ground-water samples collected from the five wells were received at Sherwood Labs on March
18, 1996. The analytical results revealed continuing nondetectable TPH-g and BTEX in samples
collected from wells MW-4, MW-5, MW-7, and MW-8.
The results of the analyses of the sample collected from MW-6 indicate that the ground water
underlying that vicinity remains impacted. TPH-g and benzene analytes have increased since
January 16 and still impact the ground water at concentrations exceeding the Maximum
Contaminant Levels (MCLs) set by the California Department of Health Services. TPH-g and
benzene had declined approximately 33% between October 18, 1995 and January 16, 1996.
Concentrations of toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes increased slightly between January
16 and March 18 but remained well below their respective MCLs. MTBE was not detected by
Associated Laboratories' chemists in a portion of the sample collected from MW-6.
This Project Status Report marks the completion of one year of monitoring activities contracted
r _ with W.W. Irwin, Inc. in the spring of 1995. In a commenting letter dated March 27, 1996, the
SJCPHS-EHD has recommended quarterly soundings of all five wells and samplings of MW-6,
<; MW-7, and MW-8 for petroleum hydrocarbons.
The ground-water monitoring activity for the third quarter should be scheduled for July, 1996.
i
' 1
I
1
1
V
W.W.
