V
ti} 21 September 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0360
V
3.1.4. Logging
During drilling, sample duplicates were monitored for the presence of organic vapor using an organic
vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID:Thermo Environmental 580A, 10.0 eV,
calibrated to isobutylene)and were visually described on boring logs in accordance with the Unified
Soil Classification System (USCS). Boring logs are included as Appendix A.
t.
4.0. FINDINGS
Soil descriptions were utilized to construct the vertical and lateral soil model; the results of the
laboratory analysis of soil and ground water samples were utilized to assess the hydrocarbon-impact
on the two media.
4.1 SOIL PROFILE
Generally, brown, damp to saturated, silty clay was encountered from surface grade to approximately
25 feet bsg. In boring P3 a thin brown, saturated sandy silt interval was encountered at 16 feet bsg
and in boring P8 a saturated silty sand interval was encountered at 15 feet bsg.Boring P l contained
pea gravel at 5 feet and 10 feet bsg, presumably imported back-fill material.Boring logs are included
in Appendix A.
4.2 FIELD EVIDENCE OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL AND GROUND WATER
LA
Moderate hydrocarbon odor was noted in soil samples collected from P1 through P4 at depths
between 5 feet bsg and 25 feet bsg, and from P7 at 10 feet bsg. The occurrence of petroleum
. hydrocarbon odor are noted on the boring logs contained in Appendix A.
Organic vapor was detected in soil samples from P1 through P8 using a PID at concentrations as
... high as 275 parts per million (ppm). Organic vapor field measurements are summarized on the
boring logs contained in Appendix A.
'-P Petroleum hydrocarbon odor was noted in grab ground water samples collected from probe borings .
P 1 through P4.
V
i.r
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
