Xerxes' rVitiI4. 1- Double-Wall RECEI Containment 16 Sump ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT Incorporating product improvements for a changing market For decades,Xerxes has been a pioneer in the design and manufac- ture of fiberglass storage tanks and accessories.Xerxes'latest double-wall, fiberglass containment sump responds to customers' changing require- ments with a product that has incorporated a number of design enhancements. Utilizing Parabeam®,a unique three-dimensional glass- reinforcement material, to create the interstitial space, the primary and secondary walls work together to provide a sump that is significantly lighter in weight than its predecessor,yet stronger structurally. Designed for either vacuum or hydrostatic monitoring of the inter- stitial space,the new eight-sided,double-wall sump is designed to meet increasingly strict continuous-monitoring requirements. Underwriters Laboratory(UL®)tested the product to include a rig- orous overpressurization test,demonstrating the ability of the design to minimize false alarms attributed to fluctuating reservoir levels often found in other double-wall sumps. During UL testing, the pressure in the interstitial space was subjected to an extra 5 psig on top of the mon- itoring fluid.The test found no leakage in the sump and a total reser- voir-level drop of less than 1 inch. Today,regulations in some locations require periodic tightness test- ing for containment sumps. In such areas,the Xerxes double-wall sump with continuous hydrostatic monitoring goes beyond the basic security that secondary containment provides.It may also eliminate the expense and trouble ofperiodic tightness testing.
