Whenever the tanks are stored at the site, chock them in place to <br />prevent rolling. (See Figure 1-2). Tie them down if high winds are <br />expected. <br />After delivery and before pre -installation testing, visually inspect <br />the entire exterior surface of the tank for signs of damage (holes, <br />cracks or deep scrapes). <br />Verify that all of the safe -delivery provisions of the Xerxes "Damage <br />Free Delivery" program have been followed. Sign the drivers <br />release form. <br />FIGURE 1-2 <br />All Xerxes tanks are tested prior to shipment but it is required that <br />all tanks be tested prior to installation in order to verify the absence <br />6 of shipping and handling damage. In the unlikely event of a leak, it <br />is most likely to develop at a manway or a fitting. After installation <br />and before backfilling to grade, the test must be repeated to verify <br />that no damage has occurred during installation. Refer to the <br />appropriate section below for the instructions for testing a single <br />wall tank, a double wall tank with a dry interstitial space or a double <br />wall tank with a liquid -filled interstitial space. <br />If damage is detected, DO NOT ATTEMPT REPAIRS. Contact the <br />UST Coordinator at the Xerxes plant nearest you or the Technical <br />Service Department at Xerxes' corporate office. Telephone numbers <br />are found on the last page of this manual. <br />Construct a test manrfold as shown in Figure 21. The air supply <br />gauge must have a maximum full-scale reading of 15 PSI with 1/4 <br />or 1/10 Ib. increments. The pressure relief valve must be rated at a <br />maximum of 6 PSI (4 PSI for 12 -foot tanks) to reduce the risk of <br />overpressurizing the tank. Before beginning the <br />test notify all people on the test site to remain in a safe location. <br />ALWAYS ATTEND THE TANK DURING THE TEST. Avoid extended <br />exposure to the manways, fittings and ends of the tank during <br />the test. <br />CAUTION: The maximum test pressure is 5 PSIG (3 PSIG when <br />testing a twelve -foot tank). <br />1. Open one service fitting. Check to see that all remaining service <br />fittings are properly doped, plugged and tightened. <br />2. Install the test manifold in the open service fitting. Connect the <br />pressure source to the test manifold. (See Figure 2-2). <br />3. Pressurize the tank to 5 PSIG (3 PSIG when testing a 12 -foot <br />tank). Add or remove air as necessary and allow the pressure <br />to stabilize. <br />4. Close the valve on the test manifold. Disconnect the air <br />supply line. <br />5. Monitor the pressure for one hour. Soap the entire exterior of <br />the tank and watch for active air bubbles which indicate a leak. <br />6. When the test is complete, carefully release the air pressure <br />from the tank by opening the air supply valve. The air supply line <br />should already have been disconnected.
