i ! <br /> . 03 November 2003 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 03-1055 <br /> Page 3 of 6 <br /> TPH-g and various BTEX compounds were detected in the grab ground water samples collected <br /> from the site Benzene concentrations exceed the State of California,Department of Health Services <br /> action level for drinking water in samples collected from boring B2, B3 and B4 The hydrocarbon <br /> plume has not been defined with the sample locations <br /> 2 4 SOIL EXCAVATION AND UST REMOVAL <br /> On the 23 October 2000 hydrocarbon-impacted soil was removed with an excavator and 2 45 cubic- <br /> yard bucket Soil was excavated from the northern most dispenser near soil probe boring B-3 Soil <br /> was stockpiled immediately on the eastern edge of the site Excavated soil was field screened for the <br /> presence of volatile organic compounds using an OVM Ground water was present within the limits <br /> of the excavation at a depth of 15 feet bsg <br /> Saturated soil was excavated from below the water table and stockpiled on site within a soil <br /> containment berm Soil was placed on plastic sheeting for temporary storage The open excavation <br /> area was surrounded by caution fencing No AGE or subcontractor personnel was allowed into the <br /> • excavation <br /> On the 20 and 21 October 2003 hydrocarbon impacted soil was removed with an excavator and 2 45 <br /> cubic-yard bucket Soil was excavated from north of the former excavation During the excavation <br /> the western and southwestern walls of the excavation collapsed During the clean up of the collapsed <br /> soil, the excavator impaled a 500 gallon UST which was inadvertently removed as a result of the <br /> impalement Under the direction of SJCEHD, AGE placed the UST on plastic sheeting within the <br /> contaminated soil stockpile for temporary storage The open excavation area is surrounded by <br /> fencing No AGE or subcontractor personnel was allowed into the excavation <br /> A UST removal permit package was completed and submitted to the SJCEHD for approval Upon <br /> approval of the removal permit, representatives of AGE returned to the site to witness the rinsing <br /> and removal of the UST Four soil samples and one grab ground water sample were collected from <br /> the excavation at the direction of SJCEHD personnel Field observations indicated that all soil <br /> samples were hydrocarbon-impacted A report of the UST removal will be prepared upon receipt of <br /> final laboratory analytical report <br /> 3.0.
