13 December 2004
AGE-NC Project No.04-1238
The primary hazards of each are identified as follows:
1. Hydrocarbon fuels-Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong aromatic petroleum hydrocarbon-like
odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water. Exposure to these materials in excess of
recommended exposure limits can cause mild eye, nose, and throat irritation and can produce a narcotic effect
on the central nervous system. Symptoms of exposure at these concentrations include headache, nausea,
drowsiness, dizziness, and loss of coordination. Certain components of gasoline(BTE&X etc.)are known or
suspected carcinogens.
The following additional hazards are expected on site:typical workrelated to facility.Noise.falling rods, flying hammer,
snapped cables, etc.on the backhoe/excavator(if applicable).
5.0. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Based on evaluation of potential hazards, the following levels of personal protection have been designated for the
applicable work areas or task:
LOCATION: JOB FUNCTION: LEVELS OF PROTECTION:
Exclusion Zone Drill borings A B C D Other
Reduction Zone Preserve samples A B C D Other
and log borings
Support Zone Support functions A B C D Other
Specific protective equipment for each level of protection used is follows:
hard hat
steel-toed boots
Level D: half-faced respirator(if necessary)
gloves
safety glasses
If air purifying respirators are authorized, organic vapor and dust is the appropriate canister for use with the involved
substances and concentrations. No changes of the specified levels of protection shall be made without the approval of
the site safety officer and the project team leader.
6.0. ON-SITE WORK PLANS
Work party(ies)consisting of two persons will perform the following tasks:
Advanced Geo Environmental,Inc.
