Box 6004
San Ramon, California 94583 j
Subject: Well Abandonment at Former Chevron Service Station#9-0959, 103 11th Street,Tracy,
California.
Ms. Hodge:
At the request of Chevron Products Company(Chevron), Gettler=Ryan Inc. (G-R)abandoned five groundwater
monitoring wells at the subject site. On April 23, 1997, GR observed Bay Area Exploration Inc. (C57 522125)
abandon wells MW-1 through MW-5. A copy of well abandonment permit#012079 issued by the San Joaquin
County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) is attached along with encroachment permit'#97-69 issued by the City
of Tracy Department of Public Works. Locations of the former wells are shown on the attached Site Plan
(Figure 1). Summary of abandoned wells are presented in Table 1.
Five 2-inch diameter wells were backfilled to the top of casing with neat cement containing approximately 5%
bentonite powder using a tremie. pipe and pump. Prior to removal of the wellhead boxes, a pressure of
approximately 10 pounds per square inch was applied to the top of each well casing for approximately 2
minutes. The well boxes were removed and the upper 2,feet of casing were drilled out. After removing the
casing, the upper 0.5 foot of each boring was backfilled with native material.
The wells have been properly abandoned as required by California Department of Water Resources Water Well
Standards (Bulletins 74-81 and 74-90) and SJCPHS guidelines. If you should have any questions, please call
us in our Sacramento office at (916) 631-1300.
Sincerely,
Gettler-Ryan Inc.
J.
Todd A.
