Box 388
Stockton, California 95201-0388:
Subject: Future Groundwater Monitoring Well Destruction Procedures
Former Chevron Service Station#9-8632
103 West Eleventh Street
;Tracy, California .
GTI Project 02070 0138
Dear Mr. Knoll:
x This letter'is written to request confirmation,of future well destruction procedures for groundwater
monitoring well MW-5 located downgradient of the former Chevron service station number 9-8632
located at:103 West Eleventh Street in Tracy, California (Figure 1). During the installation of MW-5,an
unidentified City of Tracy sewer lateral in the planter near the corner of Adams and 12th Streets was
damaged: Damage to the sewer line was unnoticed until after completion of the well. The sewer line "
E was repaired to the satisfaction of the City inspector and the well was completed to the surface.
Currently the sewer line is approximately one to two.inches away from the.well casing at approximately
2.0-2.5 feet below ground:surface.
Since groundwater monitoring well,MW-5 was left in.place, adjacent tache sewer line, future well
destruction procedures are limited.to non=drilling type of methods: In response to our phone
4
conversation on March 23, 1995', Groundwater Technology, on behalf of Chevron, is requesting that
future destruction procedures for MW-5 consist of pressure grouting rather than over-drilling. If
pressure grouting is allowed as a future well destruction procedure at MW-5, Chevron can maintain the
well in its-current location until the termination of groundwater monitoring.
Groundwater monitoring well MW-5 will be destroyed in accordance with.California Well Standards as
outlined in Department of Water Resources Bulletins 74-90 and 74-81. Prior to sealing, MW-5 will be L
sounded to make sure no obstructions exist in the well casing. Once cleared, the well will be sealed.by
pumping.a neat cement grout into the well screen, casing and sand ilter.pack through,a tremie pipe
placed,at the bottom of the well. Once sealed, the well casing will be cut approximtely 2-3 feet below
k IIIc
0138dest:4tr {
i
Offices throughout the U.S.,Canada and Overseas
F Y
