Samples collected
from the 18 and 19 foot depth contained no detectable concentrations of benzene.
PHS/EHD has determined that residual contamination exists in the eastern side of the excavation at the 14 foot depth
as indicated by sample WE14 with an analytical result of TPHg 380 ppm, the east side of the dispenser island
closest to Waterloo Road as indicated by sample PL9 with an analytical result of TPHg 1600 ppm and PL13 with
an analytical result of TPHg 1700 ppm, and the western side of the dispenser located closest to the building as
observed during the sampling of PL12.
PHS/EHD recommends that you investigate the extent of the existing soil contamination in order to design a method
of treatment that will reduce the level of soil contamination and the potential threat to groundwater. Please submit
a workplan for the investigation by September 25, 1995. The workplan should be scheduled for implementation
within two weeks of approval by this agency.
For further information please contact Steven Sasson at (209.) 468-3459.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
iteven Sasson, Senior REHS Diane M.
