CAMBRIA
Work Tasks
Permit: Cambria will obtain a well permit from SJCEHD.
1
Site Safety Plan: Cambria will prepare a site safety plan for field work.
Utility Clearance: Cambria will mark proposed drilling locations and will clear the locations
through Underground Service Alert prior to drilling.
Site Investigation: Three exploratory soil borings (MW-5, MW-6, and MW-7) are proposed at
j the locations shown on Figure 2. The exploratory borings will be drilled using hollow-stem
auger equipment and will be converted to groundwater monitoring wells. Wells MW-5 and
MW-6 will be located north(downgradient) of the USTs and dispenser islands. Well MW-7 will
be located downgradient of well MW-1. Well MW-7 will be screened in a deeper water-bearing
zone than the other wells. Cambria will consult with the driller to determine if it is appropriate
to install a conductor casing prior to installing this well. If so, a mud-rotary drilling rig may be
used to drill the upper portion of the well and install a conductor casing.
A Cambria geologist will supervise the drilling and describe the encountered soils using the
Unified Soil Classification System and Munsell Soil Color Charts. Soil samples for the borings
will be collected at 5-foot intervals for soil description, possible chemical analyses, and organic
vapor screening with a photo-ionization detector (PID). Cambria will prepare an exploratory
boring log for each well, and PID measurements will be recorded on the boring logs.
Soil samples designated for chemical analyses will be retained in stainless steel or brass sample
tubes. The tubes will be covered on both ends with Teflon sheets and plastic end caps. Soil
samples will be labeled, entered onto a chain-of-custody record, and placed into a cooler with ice
for transport to a State of California certified laboratory for analyses. A standard 2-week turn-
around time will be requested for laboratory results.
Monitoring Well Installation: Well borings MW-5 and MW-6 will be drilled to approximately
10 feet below first encountered groundwater. Based on the second quarter 2004 monitoring
event, depth to groundwater beneath the site is approximately 65 to 67 fbg. These wells will be
constructed using 4-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC casing. The well screen intervals for MW-5
and MW-6 will be approximately 5 feet above and 10 feet below first encountered groundwater.
The screen interval for MW-7 will be 10 feet in length and will target the depth of the deeper
water samples collected from CPT-1 (approximately 83 to 93 fbg). The actual depth will be
1359 4
I
