Advanced vow,
GeoEnvironme
0rti1 i , 2007
15 October 2007 ENVIRONUIEIII i HEALI H
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0300 pERMITJSERV110ES
Ms. Vicki McCartney
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
304 East Weber Avenue, 3rd Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Subject: Addendum to Work Plan, dated 20 September 2007
PACIFIC PRIDE -WEST LANE
3230 North West Lane, Stockton, CA
Dear Ms. McCartney:
In accordance with a recent telephone conversation(03 October 2007)with the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (SJCEHD), Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) has
prepared this addendum to the above referenced Work Plan Addendum- Third Quarter 2007,dated
20 September 2007.
The scope of work for the above work plan included advancing three (3) shallow soil borings to
approximately 5 feet below surface grade (bsg) for collection of soil-gas samples. During the
aforementioned telephone conversation, the SJCEHD requested that a letter addendum be submitted
that incorporated a reliable `leak detection' method during collection of soil-gas samples.
AGE proposes to utilize 70% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) as a leak detection tracer
compound to ensure that a reliable soil-gas sample is collected from each soil boring with no
ambient air breakthrough down the probe rod. AGE will apply an appropriate amount of rubbing
alcohol (approximately 8 ounces) to adequately wet a cotton towel; the wetted towel will be
completely wrapped around the base of the probe rod where it contacts the surface and the bentonite
seal. Thereafter,a soil-gas sample will be collected as described in the above-referenced Work Plan
Addendum.
Isopropyl alcohol will be added to the laboratory analysis(EPA Method 8015M)listed in the Work
Plan Addendum and will verify the validity of each sample.Utilization of isopropyl alcohol as a leak
detection method was referenced in Technical and Regulatory Guidance, Vapor Intrusion Pathway:
A Practical Guideline,prepared by the Interstate Technology&Regulatory Council(January 2007).
837 Shaw Road, Stockton,California 95215
Telephone(209)467-1006 Fax(209)467-1118
