I28 January 2004
• AGE-NC Project No 97-0230
Page 2of8
I2 1 1 Soil Sample Collection and Analysis
Discrete soil samples were collected from all five soil boring locations at 5-foot intervals, beginning
I at 5 feet bsg Soil samples were collected utilizing a California modified split-spoon sampler loaded
with three 2-inch by 6-inch brass sleeves The sampler was driven by dropping a 140-pound weight
from a height of 30 inches The number of blows required to drive each 6-inch length of the sampler
(blow counts) was recorded on boring logs by an AGE staff geologist
Soil samples were preserved by covering both ends of the second brass sleeve with Teflon sheets,
capping and sealing with tape Each preserved sample sleeve was labeled with soil boring location,
depth, time, date and sampler's initials
I Each preserved soil sample was logged on a chain-of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
transported to a California Department of Health Services(DHS)-certified laboratory, selected soil
samples were analyzed for
I • Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, diesel and motor oil (TPH-g, TPH-d and
TPH-mo) in accordance with EPA Methods 5030/8015M or LUFT/EPA 8015B,
I • - Benzene,toluene,ethyl-benzene and total xylenes(BTEX)in accordance with EPA Methods
5030/8020,
I • 1,2-Dichloroethane(1,2-DCA),ethylene dibromide(EDB),methyl tert butyl ether(MTBE),
tert-amyl methyl ether(TAME),di-isopropyl ether(D1PE),ethyl tert-butyl ether(ETBE)and
tert-butanol (TBA)by EPA Methods 503018260, and
' • Total lead by EPA Method SW6010C
IThe results of the soil analyses are contained in Table 1
I212 Logging
Sample duplicates from the remaining sleeves were monitored for the presence of organic vapor
' using an organic vapor meter equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo
Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene) and were described on boring logs using
' the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) Boring logs are included as Appendix A
I
' Advanced GeoEnvironmcntal,Inc
I
