1
Mr Tim Cuellar
' Pacific Pride - Westlane
June 22, 2000
' Page 2
' COMMENT
I The data from these analyses reveal that the sample contains moderately high concentrations
of both general (heterotrophic) and selective (MTBE-specific) microorganisms These results
suggest a lengthy exposure of the microbial population to the target contaminants, and/or the
' presence of a comparatively low concentration of alternative (competitive) carbon substrates
The results are also consistent with physicochemical health of the soil, with all parameters
indicated as being within the acceptable range for microbial health and biodegradative
' metabolism
The combined results support the belief that natural bioattenuation is occurring in the soils
' represented by the tested sample, such activity will likely continue unless and until one or
more of the following conditions occur
' a Bionutrient Exhaustion
b PhysicocheMLcal Upset (e g change to pH, biotoxins introduced)
c Carbon Exhaustion
' It is suggested that periodic sampling and microbiological/physicochemical analyses be
performed on a quarterly (minimum) basis to ensure subsurface conditions remain compatible
' with ongoing biodegradative activity against the target compound
Should you have any questions concerning these results, please do not hesitate to contact me
AKK em
I
I
