Sonic Drilling - Hydropunch
Estimated Cost: Resonant Sonic $18,280.00,three working days
A dual casing drilling system that employs the use of high frequency mechanical vibration to take
continuous core samples or drives direct push rods. Water:samples are obtained using the sonic
direct push-sampling probe. This sampling probe is similar to the hydropunch, where a screen is
attached to the drive point and once the sample depth has been reached the probe rod is retracted
exposing the screen allowing groundwater to infiltrate the sampler.
I
t
Cone Penetrometer Testing Direct Push-Hydropunch
Estimated Cost: Gregg Drilling & Testing, Inc. $7540.00,three working days:
Using a 25 ton Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT)rig the deadweight of the CPT rig is used to push
the cone penetrometer using a hydraulic ram. Soil parameters such as cone bearing, sleeve friction
ratio, friction ratio and pore water pressure are measured as the cone penetrometer is advanced.
These measurements are sent uphole through the cone rods to the support rig's on-board data
acquisition system. All data is processed in the field in real time. Once the zone of interest is
penetrated, soil core and/or groundwater samples can be obtained using a hydropunch sampler.
SELECTION
Considering estimated costs and the additional information gathered, WEGE suggests the Cone
Penetrometer Testing (CPT) method would be the best way to economically sample these zones.
Gregg Drilling & Testing performed the CPT probes for the Lincoln Village "Dry Cleaner Plume"
definition to a depth of 151.74 feet below ground surface. The CPT logs produced by our
investigation can also be compared to the Lincoln Village study CPT logs to verify A and B zone
intervals.
1
SB 2004 - UST FUND PREAPPROVAL
Former Regal Station R603 is currently in the UST reimbursement fund. Once San Joaquin County
Health has approved this workplan, costs to fulfill workplan will be submitted to the fund for pre-
approval. No work will be initiated until pre-approval has been secured.
ENCROACHMENT AND PERMITS
A soil boring permit will be obtained from SJCPHS, EHD and this workplan approved prior to
drilling and obtaining any soil and groundwater samples. Also. encroachment agreements and/or
permits will=be obtained from the City of Stockton for borings performed in Douglas road and/or
city right of way, see Figure 3.
f
I
5 R-603 extent WP 2-2001
1
