1.0 INTRODUCTION
EXXON, Inc. has subleased Regal Service Station 503 from Wickland
Oil Company (WOC) . WOC has upgraded the station with a double
contained product storage and dispensing system. During the
removal of the old underground storage tanks and subsequent
assessment, gasoline range hydrocarbon contamination was found to
exsist in both the native soil and ground water beneath the site.
1.1 LOCATION
The station is located at 6.925 Pacific Avenue at the intersection
of Douglas Road, in San Joaquin County, Stockton, California. The
site lies in Section 21; T?N; R6E; MDB&M at approximately 12 'feet
above mean sea level (HSL) (see FIGURES 1, 2,. 3, and 3A) . The
parcel is # 31 and can be locates %n the Assessor's Book 97 on
page 41.
1.2 PREVIOUS WORD
EXXON, Inc. contracted Hardy Lawson to perform a site evaluation
prior to subleasing the station. Hardy Lawson conducted a site
visit, however, due to the time frame availability they adore
unable to obtain the necessary permits required to perform
i
exploratory borings.
Town and Country Construction Co. (T&C) removed three underground.
storage tanks on October 21, 1988. Each tank (regular 'leaded,
regular unleaded, and premium unleaded) was visually inspected by
T&C for any possible failure (holes, cracks, etc. ) . The tanks
were found to be tight, with no visible evidence of failure.
Applied GeoSystems (AGS) of Sacramento, California performed the
necessary soil sampling. Sample results of the native soil
samples obtained from beneath each tank indicated that the soil
j
container) gasoline range hydrocarbons.
T&C deepened the excavation to approximately 22 feet below the
surface on October 25, 1988 in order to remove contaminated soil.
Soil sampling was performed by A'jS.
During the removal of each tank and subsequent ©xcavatior.
approximately 550 yards of soil was removed and stored on sitcr. r
Soil aeration commenced, in an attempt to lower contamination
levels to below 100 parts per million (ppm) for Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons (TPH) . AGS performed routine sampling (1 sample per
50 yards of soil) of the aerated soil in order to classify the
soil for proper disposal. All aerated soil classified below 100
ppm TPH was removed to the Sacramento County Landfill.
