YP R msMUM
i i 1
1.0 INTRODUCTION
EXXON, Inc. subleased Regal Service Station 603 from Wickland
Oil Company (WOC) who recently upgraded the station with a double
contained product storage and dispensing system. During the
removal of the old underground storage tanks and subsequent
assessment, gazoline range hydrocarbon contamination was found to
exsist In both the native so;i.l (vadose zone) and ground water
beneath the site.
1.1 LOCATION
The site is located at 6425 Pacific Avenue at the intersection
of Douglas Road, in San Joaquin County, Stockton, California. The
7.m.. property lies in Section 21; T2N; R6h; MDB&H at approximately 12
feet above mean sea level (MSL), see Figures 1, 2, 3, and 3A. The
parcel is # 31 and located on page 41 in the Assessor's Book 97.
1.2 PREVIOUS WORK
Prior to subleasing the sl.arcion, EXXON, Inc. contracted Hardy
Lawson to perform a site evaluation. Hardy Lawson conducted 1
a site visit-, however, they were unable to obtain the necessary
+ permits required to perform exploratory borings because of a
conflict with time frame availability.
Town and Country Construction Co. (TQC) removed three underground
storage tanks from the site on October 21, 1988. TQC
visually inspected each tank (regular leaded, regular unleaded,
and premium unleaded), but found no apparent evidence of failure
(holes, cracks, etc.). The tanks were found to be tight. Applied
Geo Systems (AGS), '.of Sacramento, California, performed the
necessary soil sampling. Results of the native sail samples
obtained from beneath each tank indicated that the soil contained
gasoline range hydrocarbons.
To remove the contaminated soil, T&C deepened the excavation to !
approximately 22 feet below the surface on October 25, 1988.
AGS then performed a soil sampling.
i
During the removal of each tank and subsequent excavation,
approximately 650 yards of soil was removed and stored on site.
Soil aeration commenced, in an attempt to low_r contamination
levels to below 100 parts per million (ppm) for `total Petroleum
v Hydrocarbons (TPH). AGS performed routine sampling (1 sample per
50 yards of soil) of the aerated soil in onier to classify it
for proper disposal. All aerated soil classified below 100
ppm TPH was then transported. to the Sacramento County Landfill.
1
V
