REGAL 603 8/16/91
floating product that is available that skimming could not
collect, but also treat the vadose zone from the base of the tank
excavation to top of ground water beneath the contaminant source,
USTI's. vapor extraction, is felt to enhance the native bacterial
poyu.ation, in regards to supplying oxygen to the vadose zone,
thus encouraging natural bio-degradat4on, particularly of
hydrocarbons ("Various talks on Vapor Extraction during Hazmacon
April 17-19, 1990, Anaheim, California, see: Volume II,
Measurement, Treatment, Minimizatin and Control Technologies") .
Observations made by WEGE'at other sites using vapor extraction
also support this method of remediation.
4.3 PUMP TEST PROCEDURES
A one week, 7 day, pump test will be conducted as follows:
RECOVERY WELL MW-3
BORING DIAMETER 0.83 FEET
BORING DEPTH 65 FEET BELOW THE SURFACE
CASING DIAMETER 4 INCH
SLOT INTERVAL 35 FEET TO 65 FEET BELOW THE SURFACE
SLOT SIZE 0.020 INCH
SAND PACK TYPE #3 MONTEREY SAND
AVERAGE WATER DEPTH 53 FEET BELOW THE SURFACE
OBSERVATION WELLS MW1, MW2, MW4, MW5, MW6, MW7,
MW8, MW9 & MW10.
Prior to pumping, a pressure transducer will be placed in monitor
well MWS near the 65 foot depth and hooked to a continuous
recorded data logger to record differences in hydraulic head to
0.01 foot accuracy, for a duration of one week prior to pumping of
MW3. This will help establish a base line for the natural
occurring fluctuations that may appear in the ground water
elevation for this time period. During the first week of pumping,
transducers will be placed in monitor wells MW1, MW2, MW3, MW4,
and MW8. Data loggers will be used to continuously record the
ground water fluctuations derived during the pumping of monitor
well MW3 at a pump rate of 1000 gallons/day (0.7 gallons/minute)
for seven days. The pump will be a down hole air pneumatic pump
set at the base of MW3 (approximately the 65 foot depth) . The
recovered water will be piled (1/4" PVC tubing inside PVC pipe to
a sealed sediment collection tank that is vented to the
incinerator. From the sediment trap the ground water will be
sprayed into the "ConVauit" air stripping tank (1000 gallon
capacity) . The ground water hJ11 be tisated and aerated by heated
air jets within the tank for approximately 2.5 hours. All VOC
vapors produced from the aerating will be vacuumed recovered and
destroyed by the "Hirtz" incenerator. Once the 2.5 hour aeration
f
PAGE 11
