Three to Four soil samples were analyzed from'each baring,
dependant upon stratigraphy and depth. Brass sample tubes were sealed with alum inum E
foil, capped, labeled and refrigerated immediately for transport to California Water
Laboratory, inc. Soil samples not analyzed were kept refrigerated until project
completion. Chain of Custody(CoV guidelines were followed on all samples to insure i
their integrity.
5.5 Sample Screening
The goal of the screening is to reduce the cost of the project without compromising quality.
From field observotlons such as sediment type, moisture content, and the presence or
absence of contamination odor certain samples can be selected that represent discrete
- horizons. The presence of contamination barriers can also be detected by this method,
5.7 Monitoring Well Design
The monitoring wells extend 9 feet Into the water table and are c)onstriN:3d of 2-inch
thrcoded Joint PVC pipe(schedule 40)perforated from the bottom of the well to 3 feet
above the water table. Tho filter pack of JT3 send extends from the bottom of the well to 3
feet above the perforated zone.'M annular seal composed of a bentonite grout(Benseal)
was pumped in by the tremle method above the filter pack. The monitoring well casing is
secured with a locking cap and surrounded with a watertight well box. Figure 4 shows the
construction of these monitoring wells.
1
