29 September 1995 <br /> AGE-NC Project No 95-0139 <br />' Page 3 of 7 <br /> 25 DISPOSAL OF HYDROCARBON IMPACTED-SOIL <br /> 1 <br /> The stockpiled soil was characterized for disposal and transported under non-hazardous waste <br />' manifest to Forward, Inc Landfill in Manteca, California Analytical results of the soil <br /> characterization and copies of the non-hazardous waste manifests were included in the March 1994 <br /> Quarterly Report prepared by GeoAudit <br /> 3.0. PROCEDURES <br /> 3 1 UST INSTALLATION <br /> In January 1995, excavation for the installation of two new USTs at the subject site was initiated by <br /> SEMCO of Modesto, California Hydrocarbon-impacted soil was encountered during excavation <br /> Therefore, installation procedures were suspended and the PHS/EHD notified <br /> Excavation resumed on 8 February 1995 During excavation, representatives of AGE screened the <br /> soil for the presence of volatile organic using a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo <br /> Environmental 580A, 10 OeV, calibrated to isobutylene) and segregated into two stockpiles basea <br /> on PID readings and field observations All excavated soil was transported to Forward under non- <br /> hazardous waste manifest and stored under a stockpile agreement until characterization could be <br /> performed The excavator, loader and operators were supplied by SEMCO Soil transportation was <br /> provided by Rich Hanulton Trucking of Modesto, California Disposal certificates are included in <br /> Appendix A <br /> The dimensions of the excavation for the installation of the USTs was approximately 52 by 38 feet <br /> E at the surface and narrowed to 36 feet by 22 feet at the total depth of 13 feet Additional excavation <br /> was performed along the south wall to remove impacted soil <br /> E Nine soil samples were collected from the walls and floor of the excavation Sidewall samples were <br /> collected at depths from 10 5 feet to 115 feet Floor samples were collected from depths of 12 5 feet <br /> Sample locations are shown on Figure 3 <br /> EOn 15 February 1995, soil samples were collected from the stockpiles located at Forward Three and <br /> twenty samples were collected from Stockpile No 1 and Stockpile No 2, respectively <br /> EAll excavation and stockpile soil samples were collected in 2-inch by 3-inch brass tubes Both ends <br /> of each tube were covered with alumuium or Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape Samples <br /> Ewere placed on ice and transported to McCampbell Analytical, Inc (MAI) in Pacheco All samples <br /> were analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d and volatile organics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene <br /> BTE&X) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and 8020, respectively Samples from Stockpile <br /> E r <br />
