I Il
Mr Sam Savig
• contamination
Waste soil and water generated during drilling activities were placed into DOT approved 55-gallon drums
Both waste streams are currently stored on site pending characterization for proper disposal
2.3 Well Construction
Based on the lithology and measured depth to groundwater (l l to 12 feet bgs) wells MW through MW3
were screened from approximately 5 to 25 feet bgs with 2-inch diameter, factory slotted (0 010-inch), well
screen The filter pack consisted of 26 feet of#2112 silica sand The annular seal contained 1 foot of
hydrated bentonite pellets overlain by neat cement grout The wells were completed at the ground surface
with temporary well monuments Boring/well construction logs are included in Appendix C
2.4 Well Development and Groundwater Sampling
On November 27, 2001, a Ground Zero technician developed the new wells and collected
groundwater samples Water levels were monitored prior to well development
Each well was developed by swabbing the well with a surge-block, then pumping the well with a
centrifugal pump until turbidity was minimized During the well development process, temperature,
pH, and electrical conductivity were measured and allowed to stabilize prior to collecting a
. groundwater sample Groundwater purged from the wells was placed into labeled DOT approved
55-gallon drums, which are currently stored on site pending disposal Groundwater samples were
collected from each well after physical parameters had stabilized and water levels in the wells
recovered to at least 80% of pre-purged levels Field development/purge logs are included in
Appendix D
Groundwater samples were placed in an ice chest at a temperature of 4°C and submitted to Argon
Laboratory under chain of custody protocol The samples were analyzed for
1 Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd),
and total petroleum hydrocarbons as kerosene(TPHk)using modified EPA method 8015,
2 Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX)using EPA Method 8020
3 Oxygenated gasoline additives methyl-tert-butyl-ether (MTBE), ethyl-tert-butyl-ether (ETBE), di-
isopropyl ether (RIPE), tert-amyl-methyl-ether (TAME), tert-butyl alcohol (TBA), ethanol, and
methanol using EPA Method 8260B,
4 Lead scavengers 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and ethylene dibromide (EDB) using EPA Method
8260B
The top of the well casing at each well was surveyed on December 11, 2001 in order to calculate the
groundwater gradient beneath the site
G1Data1GROUNDZEITHORPE\SouzalReports\W ELLRPT dor
