PHS
Environmental Health Division
Site Mitigation Unit
304 E. Weber Street, 3rd. Floor
Stockton, CA 95202
Re: 1000 E. Eleventh street, Tracy, CA
Per your request for backup data concerning our letter of January 25, 1999, we are
enclosing a copy of the calculations that were made for estimating the amounts of
contamination removed and remaining in the soil beneath the site. The calculated
volumes are in metric units. To convert kilograms to pounds, multiply by 2.2.
The justification for closing this site are summarized below:
• The UST's product lines & dispensing pumps have been removed from the
property.
• A minimum of 200 cubic yards of contaminated soil has been removed from the
site. There are no records concerning the disposition of soil after removal of the
two UST's, but field evidence suggests that some material was disposed of at that
time.
• Based upon calculations from field results and laboratory analyses, it is estimated
that a minimum of 387 pounds of petroleum hydrocarbons have been removed
from the site. Those same calculations indicate that approximately 14 pounds of
hydrocarbons may still be present in the soil. This is a 96% reduction in volume.
The majority of the remaining contamination is immobilized beneath the existing
building and cannot be removed.
• Soil samples taken from the the three groundwater monitoring wells did not reveal
A any contamination, and all water samples taken from 4 monitoring events between
October, 1996 & September, 1998 have been below detection limits.
• The domestic water well in the southeast corner of the property has not revealed
any petroleum hydrocarbon substances.
