Eleventh Street, Trac s o '^p kj,
Site Code 2083 9 fy
Prepared by mss~ .
Wm. J. Hunter & Associates ''0 0
November 6, 1997 4 0, 'L
PURPOSE OF WORK:
On August 21, 1997, WJH submitted a workplan to the San Jo
County EHD for removing the existing pump island and excava 1
and disposing of contaminated soil. . The County replied on
October 13, 1997, requesting that the workplan be modified to
include additional excavation and details of removal of
contaminated groundwater.
REVISED WORKPLAN:
1 . Temporarily move a portion of the fence to allow access .
2 . Remove the pump island and a portion of the sidewalk.
3 . Excavate an area approximately 8 'x 15 'x 10-12 ' deep as shown
on PLATE II . Groundwater was measured at 8 .28 ' bgl during the
June, 1997 sampling. There is a layer of blue-gray clay at
approximately 5 ' bgl which appears to be a limited aquitard to
the vertical movement of liquids . Extreme care will be exercised
when penetrating this .layer to avoid spreading the contamination
deeper. A vacuum truck or similar equipment will be in position
to remove any free product .
4 . If, after removal of the contaminated soil, groundwater is
entering the excavation, the backhoe operator will deepen the
center of the pit so that the water will accumulate for easy
removal by the vacuum truck.
5 . The approximately 50 cubic yards of material removed will be
either containerized or placed on plastic at the rear of the
property. It will be characterized and either remediated on site
or transported to a licensed landfill for disposal .
5 . Depending upon the results of the excavation, soil samples
may be taken and analyzed for BTEX, TPHg, & TEPH.
6 . The excavation will be filled with clean material & the
property restored to use.
1
