BC&D Property
` Phase II-Ground Water Assessment Proposal
Page: 4
4.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM
The following measures will be taken by Geological Technics to insure that a high quality
study is conducted and that cross contamination does not occur.
4.1 Equipment
- Monitoring well borings will be drilled with a 7.25-inch and a 1(3 inch(o.d.)hollow
stem continuous flight auger, owned and operated by Osterberg and Stewart,Inc. Soil
samples will be -inch using a 2-inch(a.d.)modified California split spoon sampler
lined with brass sample tubes.
4.2 Boring Logs
Detailed logs will be made of each boring. The information noted will include: sample
depths, blow counts, horizons of detectable contamination(detected by field methods),
r { soil classification utilizing the Unified Soil Classification System and sediment
,►``' description(color,texture,composition,hardness,moisture content,and post-
jdeposition,11 changes that have occurred in the sediments).
4.3 Soil Sampling
Soil samples will be collected at 5.Foot intervals in the first boring to characterize the
sediment types and to confirm the lateral continuity of the strata. If a contamination
odor is detected in soil above the aquifer, soil samples will be collected and analyzed.
Ii
Brass sample tubes will be sealed with aluminum foil, capped, labeled and
immediately refrigerated for transport to the analytical laboratory. Soil samples not
s r°? analyzed will be kept refrigerated until project completion.
4.4 Sample Screening
Becase not every soil sample collected will be analyzed,a screening process is used to
L
select t vpresentative samples. The goal of this selective process is to reduce the cost of
the r-_"without compromising the quality. From field observations noting sediment
r type, moisture content, and the presence of contamination odor certain samples can be
-- ---- - — — - -------selected that represent discrete horizons.-The presence of..contamination.barriers.can______._______________
also be detected by this method.
