BC&D Properties
Report, MW Installation and Monitoring
Project No. 8.1.2
fi December 17, 1992.
4r>
 Page 10
i
E:
6.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAM
i;
Geological Technics has incorporated the following health and safety precautions
while working on sites containing unidentified hazardous waste. Once the
nature and extent of contamination has been determined, additional work on
site will be met with the proper precautions.
. I
f;
6.1 Workers Health and Safety
4.
6.1.1 Work Space Safety
I'
kThe perimeter of the work space should, if possible, be 20 feet from the drilling
I
rig or excavation site. The working perimeter will be marked by brightly colored
delineators. All unauthorized personnel will not be allowed access into the
twork space.
j The project supervisor will coordinate all field activities and maintain the safest
L possible working environment at all times. If an emergency occurs, the
I L f supervisor will immediately contact the proper authorities.
i
6.1.2 Skin and Head Protection
Disposable suits, boots, and gloves will be worn when. the working conditions
require such precautions.
Disposable plastic gloves will be worn at all times during soil and groundwater
sampling. The gloves will be changed after each sample has been collected. k
,, Used disposable clothing will be properly discarded at the end of each working
day.
E Hard hats will be worn during drilling, excavation, and other activities in which
potentially dangerous equipment is being operated within the work space.
11 6.1.3 Face and Respiratory Protection
During drilling and excavation. activities, the working air space will be
periodically monitored with either a Photo Ionization Detector (PID) or SKC
Color-Detector Tubes (Draeger Tubes) for gas and vapor content. The PID
measures the total organic compounds (VOC) vapor concentration while the
Detector Tubes measures the levels of specific compounds in the air being
sampled. Monitoring of the working air space shall be concentrated around the
drilling rig and in the down wind direction.
