Grab-groundwater samples were
collected using a Geoprobe rig.
A copy of a boring location map, the chain-of-custody form and laboratory analytical data
sheets, and a data summary table are attached.
The laboratory results (Table 1) indicate that a methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) concentration
of 13 ug/L, which equals the Regional Water Quality Control Board's Maximum Contaminant
Level for MTBE, was detected in the grab-groundwater sample from Boring SB-4, located
adjacent to West 11`h Street. MTBE was not detected in the other three grab-groundwater
samples collected nearby. There is no known source of MTBE on the undeveloped lot. A
Chevron gas station is located at the southeast corner of Corral Hollow Road and West 11`h
Street, directly across the street and in the presumed up-gradient location from Boring SB-4.
Our client, Safeway Inc., is planning to proceed with site development and installation of a
gasoline station at this location. Safeway seeks confirmation from the County that 1) the one
MTBE detection in groundwater at Boring SB-4 will not trigger additional action on the part of
Safeway; and 2) the presence of MTBE in groundwater at SB-4 is a pre-existing condition not
caused by Safeway.
Please reply to Tim Costello at GeoTrans. Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
GeoTr%
Tim Costello Don Lee
Senior Scientist Project Geologist
Attachments
cc: Messrs.
